GTM #227 - X-Wing Second Edition Wave III
by Fantasy Flight Games

Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The Separatist Alliance has driven a spike into the heart of the galaxy, splintering the once-unified worlds with chaos, tyranny, and fear. But even in this age of uncertainty and disunion, legendary Jedi Knights band together and fight to preserve the Republic. Soon, your players can choose a side and bring their games of X-Wing into the Clone Wars!

This wave of expansions gives players the chance to enter this spreading conflict and command endless legions of droid fighters as the Separatist Alliance or valiantly lead powerful Jedi Knights and dedicated clone pilots into battle as the Galactic Republic. Far from simply adding new ships to the game, both of these groups enter the game as never before seen factions with their own unique identities and strategies, inviting your players to customize their ships with new faction-specific upgrade cards.

As they do, they’ll experience an increased emphasis on the Force, encounter new obstacles, and discover new ways to foil their opponent’s plans, allowing them to immerse themselves in the thrill of the Clone Wars more than ever before.

Preserving Peace

Reeling from the blow dealt to it by the treacherous Separatist Alliance, the Galactic Republic turns to the Jedi and an army of clone troopers to preserve peace in this time of turmoil. As the space battles of X-Wing turn to this era of the Star Wars saga for the first time, three ships form the building blocks of players’ Galactic Republic squadrons.

The chosen interceptor of many Jedi, including the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu, the Delta-7 Aethersprite allows them to use their Force-enhanced reflexes to the fullest as they lead the fight against the forces of tyranny and chaos. These nimble fighters may be lightly armed, but their fine-tuned controls allow them to be flown with unmatched precision.

As might be expected, the introduction of the Jedi’s signature starfighter into the game brings with it new opportunities for players to harness the power of the Force. Not only does the Delta-7 feature numerous pilots with Force charges, it also gives players the chance to spend those charges to perform new purple actions, opening up new strategic possibilities for the Force. Additionally, a host of new Force upgrade cards introduced in this wave unlock even more supernatural abilities in these pilots, giving them the flexibility to dominate the battlefield.

Taking to the skies alongside their Jedi Generals, the Republic’s clone pilots enter the fight in two distinct starfighters. Those that escort the Jedi into battle at the controls of a V-19 Torrent starfighter cover the Jedi with coordinated fire, tight formation flying, and salvoes of missiles.

Those taking flight in an ARC-170 Starfighter, meanwhile, smash through foes with their torpedoes and rear gunner. Whether defending the flanks or giving support to a Jedi, the ARC-170 has an imposing presence that enemies will not soon forget.

Sowing Chaos

The corporate entities that form the bulk of the Separatist Alliance have untold amounts of resources at their disposal. As the Clone Wars escalate, then, it is only natural that they throw this weight into developing advanced starfighter technology that can help them put the Republic on the defensive.

The three Separatist Alliance ships that introduce players to this faction are the fruits of this research and no ship represents the Separatists better than the Vulture-class Droid Fighter. Forming the backbone of the Separatist forces, these fighters are also emblematic of its strategy: weak in isolation, but overwhelming in numbers. With a sufficiently vast swarm of networked attackers at their disposal, a player can defeat even wise and powerful Jedi pilots.

Despite sharing similar characteristics, not all Vulture-class Droid Fighters are created the same. Multiple varieties of programming foster different strategies and, with the ship cards included in the Servants of Strike Squadron Pack and the Vulture-class Droid Fighter Expansion Pack, players can create their own cunning and sinister swarm of droid fighters, even rounding out their squadrons with multiple copies of the same unique programming.

These droid fighters may represent the majority of the Separatist forces, but they are only the tip of the spear. At the head of this offensive is the dastardly General Grievous, slinking through the shadows in his customized Belbulab-22 Starfighter. Perfectly suited for assaults on Republic targets and hunting Jedi alike, this heavy starfighter is the ideal option to lead any Separatist squadron into battle.

Finally, operating in the shadows behind the Separatist Alliance is none other than the Sith themselves. As they unfold their dark machinations across the galaxy, they need a ship that matches their nefarious purposes. Casting a menacing shadow as it cuts across the skies, the Sith Infiltrator is the perfect choice  to carry the agents of Darth Sidious on their dark missions across the galaxy. With the Sith Infiltrator Expansion Pack, players can use this ship’s experimental cloaking device, devastating firepower, and advanced systems to deliver vicious surgical strikes before it vanishes into the darkness of the void.

Enter a New Era

The epic space battles of X-Wing are entering a new era as the Separatist Alliance threatens to send the Republic spinning into chaos. Prepare your fighters and enter the Clone Wars!
