For the first time in over 7 years, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy and more are all featured in this upcoming 5-figure booster HeroClix release! Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Fantastic Four Empyre, or just Empyre for short, has all corners of the Marvel universe are represented including brand-new versions of fan-favorite characters as well as exciting never-before-seen characters. In Marvel’s earth-shattering Empyre event, the Avengers and Fantastic Four as well as the Kree and Skrull alliance led by Hulkling team up to fight against the Cotati Empyre. Take a look at these exclusive new previews of some of the characters and returning gameplay mechanics Empyre has to offer. First preview is Kree Soldier, which is a Common “generic” in the Empyre. Kree Soldier has no special powers or traits, but at 20 points it is a Sidekick and has the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability. It can be generated by a few characters in the set including Hulking and Mar-Vell (more on him later) and synergizes well with all of the other Captain/Sidekick/Ally characters released over the last few sets. Next up is Loki (sometimes called Ikol) who is an Uncommon in Empyre. He has a trait with the Rally mechanic first introduced in X-Men Rise and Fall but he has it with all attack rolls with a finalized result of a 2 instead of just 5 for opposing attack rolls. He can remove a rally die from his card to place himself within 2 squares and then generate another copy of himself on click #9 in the square he was previously in. That Loki can’t use Rally, but can be used for effects like Mastermind and has the Mystics team ability even if an opponent decides to attack him. Plenty of Probability Control and the possibility of dealing damage with Blade/Claws/Fangs makes this Loki an interesting character at only 60 points.
Next, representing the Skulls as a Rare in the set is a Super Skrull composed of X-Men characters known as Rl’nnd. Rl’nnd is an Ally which allows him to be placed on your sideline and give friendly Captains/Sidekicks +1 attack when attacking one or more characters with the X-Men keyword. X-Men are always very popular teams in HeroClix, and now is no exception with the release of both the X-Men House of X and X-Men Rise and Fall sets in 2021 and X-Men being featured in Empyre as well. Be sure to be on the lookout for Rl’nnd for any of your Captain/Sidekick teams. For the rest of his dial, it may only look like it has a few standard powers, but he also a trait that allows him to choose two powers from a list on his card to use until you choose again. Some of those powers are very strong movement like Charge and Running Shot, attacking like Blades/Claws/Fangs and Penetrating/Psychic Blast, and defensive powers like Energy Shield/Deflection and Super Senses, which all can be helpful in a variety of situations. On top of the X-Men and Skrull team abilities, Rl’nnd is going to be difficult to take down.
Finally, we have Mar-Vell as a Super Rare in Empyre. He is also a Captain which ties into his first trait “The Kree-Skrull War”. This trait allows him to choose an opposing character within range that can’t use Super Senses or Shape Change when attacked by Mar-Vell and other Sidekicks during the turn which is very useful in this set which is full of both of those powers. His next trait gives him another chance before he is KO’d. When he would be KO’d for the first time, instead turn him back to click #8, roll a d6, and heal a number of clicks depending on the point value he began the game, either 125 for the full d6 result or 75 for half the d6 result. His special damage power gives him Leadership, and when he is successful he can instead generate a Kree Soldier on click #1. As mentioned before, the Kree Soldier is a Sidekick who works with Mar-Vell’s trait as well as an entire extra figure that your team can get onto the board for free. Mar-Vell is also collector number 059a, so be on the lookout for a Prime version in the set!
Empyre is sure to be the most ambitious HeroClix set of the year. Alongside the booster brick, there is plenty of exciting content for new fans like the miniatures game with map tiles and special scenarios. Longtime fans will have access to brand-new Legacy cards bringing HeroClix from the past into Modern Age with updated powers and abilities.
